Dear Friends:
We are approaching the ninth
anniversary of the operation of the new shelter located at 851 Lake
Emory Road, Franklin. During that time, more than 10,000 dogs and
8,000 cats have been sheltered, fed, cared for medically and
compassionately, and relieved from a life of abandonment, abuse or
life on the street. Hundreds have been adopted by caring people and
families.
Our shelter staff has continued to
show their commitment to the many animals and our adoption rate has
been encouraging. In 2006, 267 dogs and cats were taken into the
shelter, 207 animals were adopted, and 25 dogs and cats were returned
to their owners. Incoming animals are screened for health conditions
and are checked by a veterinarian, receiving necessary shots and
medical care.
We recently had the shelter’s
computer system updated with a refurbished computer donated by the
Tech Place, located in the Franklin Plaza. In addition, Prudential
Realty donated the first year of high speed internet with a $360.00
donation. Verizon is waiving $130.00 in set up fees as well. These
gifts, greatly appreciated, will help the shelter to communicate
better with others, enhance and update our webpage, and track incoming
email better. Hopefully, educating the public, animals adoptions, and
contributions will increase during this year because of the new
upgrade.
The Humane Society Thrift Shop has
been transforming rapidly, with the new building’s shell completed.
It should not be long before we have a brand new, larger, and busier
thrift shop available for the public, and helping us help animals in
need. The new Thrift Shop is located beside the old one at 1521 Old
Murphy Road, Franklin. We look forward to seeing a lot of Maconians
as well as other visitors from near and far!
We are ever mindful that without the
help and support of our generous community and other benefactors, we
could not have achieved the reality of the new Thrift Shop, the
Shelter, and money needed in day to day sheltering and care of
abandoned, unwanted, lost or abused animals. We are grateful for your
past and present support, and hope that we may come to you in the
future for your assistance.
Any gift, no matter the size, assists
the Humane Society with it’s mission, a mission to help animals
needing help. These generous donations are critical to our success,
and the we thank all those who find it possible to give to such a
worthy cause.
Sincerely,
Macon County Humane Society
